Jack Guthrie was born in 1915.

Jerry Lee Lewis Jr., drummer in his dad Jerry Lee Lewis' band, died in a car accident in 1973 at age 19. He was the second of Lewis' children to die young.

Dolly Parton's "Great Balls of Fire" was certified gold in 1979.

Junior Samples died in 1983.

Bob Dylan was denied admission to Tanya Tucker's show at the Toronto Royal York Hotel in 1986, when he arrived wearing a parka and jeans. He was allowed in after Tucker's road manager loaned him a jacket.

The Patsy Cline album "Greatest Hits" was certified platinum in 1987.

Faith Hill's "It Matters To Me" went gold in 1995.

BROOKS REUNION

Garth Brooks is reuniting with former band member Ty England, who had joined Brooks on the Brooks/George Jones duet of "Beer Run" on the CMA Awards show last week. England will appear in the "Three-Wednesday" live specials on CBS on Wednesday and on Nov. 21 and 28 to promote Brooks' new album, Scarecrow.

RIDERS WIN THE BIG ONE

Opry members Riders in the Sky won the highest accolade at the Western Music Association Awards in Tucson, Ariz., last Thursday. The group took home the Entertainer of the Year award. The Traditional Group of the Year was Sons of the San Joaquin and their Sing One for the Cowboy CD was honored as Album of the Year and the title track as Song of the Year. The show was part of the 13th Annual International Western Music Festival.

WHERE WERE YOU?

Alan Jackson's "Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)" is fast becoming a fan favorite. Jackson's Web site was flooded with traffic and country radio stations have been overwhelmed with requests for the song after its debut on the CMA Awards. Currently, there are no plans to release the song as a single. However, radio stations are playing the song from the CBS broadcast of the CMAs. Jackson currently has two songs on the charts, "Where I Come From" and "It's Alright to be a Redneck."
