While taping a television interview on October 25, 1989 following a tree-planting ceremony at the Smithsonian Institution, Senator John Glenn, D-Ohio, was slugged on the chin by Michael J. Breen, 31, of Washington DC. Glenn was not seriously hurt in the attack. (UPI/File)
