Glenn Jr. before his Mercury-Atlas 6 lifts off from Cape Canaveral, February 20, 1966, in what would be the first American manned orbital space flight. Glenn, a Democratic Senator from Ohio, returns to space October 29, 1998, aboard the space shuttle Discovery to participate in experiments on aging. Glenn is 77-years-old. iw/ho/NASA UPI
