RALLY TO PROTEST PROPOSITION 203

RALLY TO PROTEST PROPOSITION 203
PHO2000101303 -13 OCTOBER 2000 - PHOENIX, ARIZONA: Jimmy Gould, a member of the Navajo Nation, wears a sign urging voters to vote against Proposition 203, during a march through Phoenix, Arizona, October 13, 2000. "Dooda" is the Navajo word for "no." The Navajo tribe is the largest Native American tribe in Arizona and has mobilized against Proposition 203, which is the most contentious ballot initiative on Arizona's November ballot. It would eliminate bilingual education in Arizona's public schools. The initiative is being funded by California businessman Ron Untz, who has funded similar initiatives in California. Several hundred Native American and Hispanic rights activists marched through Phoenix Friday to protest Proposition 203..cc/jk/Jack Kurtz UPI
