JAPAN'S BATHERS SEEK DIFFERENT HEALTH OPTIONS

JAPAN'S BATHERS SEEK DIFFERENT HEALTH OPTIONS

Japanese spa industry, under heavy competition, is trying new features to attract health-conscious bathers on February 25, 2007. This spa has a section with Garra Rufa, a fresh-water fish in the carp family, that has a habit of nibbling the cornified layers of human skins. Bathers are advised to keep their feet in the water for about three minutes for toe nibbling by the fish. This method, said to be originated in Kangal Region, Turkey, has been applied in this spa with the cooperation of Turkey's tourism authorities. (UPI Photo/Keizo Mori)
