Oscar Arias Sanchez born 13 September 1940 in Heredia in Costa Rica is the current President of Costa Rica a position he also held from 1986-1990. In 1987 he received the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end civil wars then raging in several Central American countries. He is also a recipient of the Albert Schweitzer Prize for Humanitarianism and a trustee of the Economists for Peace and Security.
