A sculpture commemorates the spot of the 1886 Haymarket Riot near downtown on May 1, 2012 in Chicago. Protesters take to the streets around the world to commemorate the event as part of International Workers Day every 1st of May. The 1886 riot began when an unknown person threw a dynamite bomb into police trying to disperse a public assembly of workers on a general strike for the 8-hour workday. In response, police fired into the crowd killing dozens of demonstrators and several of their own officers. UPI/Brian Kersey
