HURRICANE KATRINA AFTERMATH

Millions of bags and boxes of chicken are decaying into a smelly, slimy mess at the New Orleans Cold Storage facility in eastern New Orleans, Oct. 14, 2005. The warehouses where perishables awaited shipment all over the world have been declared a toxic waste site after flooding from Hurricane Katrina cut off power for a month. Twenty-six million pounds of chicken, destined for foreign markets, must be cleaned up after it spoiled. (UPI Photo/ A.J. Sisco)
