Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony

House Speaker John Boehner presents the Congressional Gold Medal to Dr. Lawrence Pijeaux (2nd L), Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, which is posthumously presented to victims of the 1963 Birmingham bombing, at the U.S. Capitol, in Washington on September 10, 2013. The medal is awarded in recognition of victims Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Carole Robertson and Cynthia Wesley, and how their sacrifice served as a catalyst for the Civil Rights Movement.
