Indian Point unit 3 Reactor shutdown for weeks after explosion
The Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant stands at the base of the Hudson River three days after an explosion and fire at the facility in Buchanan, New York on May 11, 2015. A transformer failure at the plant caused an explosion Saturday evening, sending billows of black smoke into the air. The unit 3 reactor at the Indian Point Energy Center could remain offline for weeks due to the fire. The plant is owned and operated by Entergy Nuclear Northeast, a subsidiary of Entergy Corporation, and supplies electricity for millions of customers in Westchester County and New York City.
