Amorphophallus titanum
LAP99080307 - 03 AUGUST 1999 - SAN MARINO, CALIFORNIA, USA: Louann Jensen inspects a rare-and stinky plant called a "corpse flower" that has bloomed less than a dozen times in the United States this century is drawing big crowds to the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens in San Marino. Hundreds of people were in line August 2 to get a look and a whiff of the world's largest flower-the giant Amorphophallus titanum, which exudes an odor like decaying flesh to attract the insects that pollinate it. The plant began blooming just before closing Sunday night and the crimson three-foot flower is expected to remain open through Wednesday. . iw/jr/Jim Ruymen UPI
