U.S. Navy Blufin-21 Searches for Missing Airliner
Operators aboard the Australian Defense Vessel Ocean Shield move the U.S. Navy's Bluefin-21 autonomous underwater vehicle into position for deployment in the Indian Ocean approximately 1,100 miles from Perth, Australia on April 14, 2014. Bluefin will descend to a depth of between 4,000 and 4,500 meters, approximately 35 meters above the ocean floor, to spend up to 16 hours at this depth collecting data.
