Coast Guard Ice-Breaker Aides Russian Tanker in Bering Sea
The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Healy escorts the Russian tanker Renda 250 miles south of Nome, Alaska in the Bering Sea on January 6, 2012. The vessels are transiting through ice up to five-feet thick in this area. The tanker Renda is carrying 1.3 million gallons of fuel for the Nome, as the city did not receive its last pre-winter shipment due to storms. UPI/Sara Francis/U.S. Coast Guard
