New Year's Eve Ball final test before Time's Square Celebration
In final preparation for New Year's Eve, workers assist in the raising of the iconic lit Times Square New Year's Eve Ball up the 130-foot pole atop One Times Square in New York City on December 30, 2014. Event co-organizers Tim Tompkins, President of the Times Square Alliance, and Jeffrey Straus, President of Countdown Entertainment, along with Brent Shafer, CEO Philips North America flip the giant switch to initiate the spectacular, state-of-the-art lighting effects powered by 32,256 Philips Luxeon Rebel LEDs and embellished by the Ball's 2,688 Waterford Crystals. Over one million people are expected in Times Square to bring in the new year. UPI/John Angelillo
