Pine Beetle Forest Infestation Update in Walden, Colorado

Trees that include pine beetle devastated pines and healthy tress stand in the shadows of a mountain range surrounding the North Park area of the Routt-Medicine Bow district in Walden, Colorado on April 7, 2009. The U. S. Forest Service has been forced to allow the historic proportioned pine beetle epidemic to run its natural course. The bad news is that 100 percent of the mature (60-150 year old trees0 are infected and 80 percent will die. The good news is that a new forest is growing amongst the devasted forests and future generatioins will have once again their beloved green forests.
