Francois' langur Born at Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago
Chi (L), a young female Francois' langur (Trachypithecus francoisi francoisi), takes an infant away from its mother Pumpkin (R) at the Lincoln Park Zoo on January 15, 2009 in Chicago. The Francois' langur infant was born at the zoo on January 12 and is part of an endangered species of primate native to the mountain jungles on the border between Vietnam and China. Infants are born with orange hair, which is believed to attract other females in the group to handle the newborn, a behavior termed allomothering or "aunting" common among leaf-eating primates like the Francois' langur.
