KOALAS ON DISPLAY HIGHLIGHTS HABITAT PROBLEMS IN AUSTRALIA

Six-year-old koala mom Amaroo cuddles her 8-month-old son Kaiyu at the San Diego Zoo on April 26, 2004. Amaroo and Kaiyu share their Zoo habitat with three other koala kid and mom pairs. The San Diego Zoo has the largest collection of koalas outside of Australia. Home to approximately 70 koalas, the Zoo temporarily loans out about half of the collection to other zoos throughout the world to raise conservation awareness and funds for koala habitat protection in Australia.
