Sometimes the news isn't about politics or global security, but about the strange and surreal goings-on of a man refusing millions of dollars, ghosts allegedly engaging in intercourse and a digital pop star. These are the top 10 odd news stories of 2011, as ranked by their popularity on UPI.com.
Lawsuit: 'Marijuana' was a bag of sage
A Florida woman who was wrongly arrested on charges of marijuana possession for a bag of sage swiftly sued the police. Robin Brown, 49, was arrested before a proper test was performed on the substance she was carrying after the County sheriff's field kit tested positive for marijuana. The criminal charges were dropped after Brown's lawyer discovered the herbs had not been thoroughly tested, and the lab was forced to conduct the test, which determined the sage was free of marijuana. Brown's lawsuit accuses Broward State Attorney's Office of negligence and malicious prosecution. UPI Photo/Terry Schmitt
