Students in Chile kiss for education reform
Nearly one hundred students turned up in Santiago de Chile's Plaza de Armas on Thursday, September 1, to lock lips for education reform. The "besaton" or "kissing protest" consisted of both high school and university. Some dressed in costumes while others held signs with slogans reading, "To give one kiss is to convert a dream into a reality."

Student representatives said the state education system left room for profiteering on a scale that was financially crushing for the students and their families.

Student protests have frequently paralyzed parts of urban Chile for the past three months and also led to clashes, arrests and injuries among demonstrators and police.
