American Flag restoration project in St. Louis
Denny Deters puts a stitch in the National 9/11 Flag at the Soliders Memorial in St. Louis on October 11, 2010. The 30-foot American flag, destroyed when the World Trade Center buildings collapsed on September 11, 2001, is currently traveling around the country as part of a restoration effort, sponsored by The New York Says Thank You Foundation. The foundation wants to empower local service heroes in all 50 states with the privildge of stitching the flag back to its original 13-stripe format. The New York Says Thank You Foundation wants to make the flag whole again by the 10th year anniversary of 9/11. It will become part of the permanent collection of the National September 11 Memorial Museum being built at the World Trade Center site. UPI/Bill Greenblatt
