On October 28th, America celebrates the 125th anniversary of the Statute of Liberty. This neoclassical sculpture was given to the United States by France as a symbol of liberty and was designed by Frédéric Bartholdi. The statue has been on Liberty Island since October 28, 1886.
The original Statue of Liberty, the model used by Frederic Bartholdi to create the larger version in New York, is seen on display at the Jardin d'Acclimatation at the opening of the "Americans in Paris" fair in Paris on April 11, 2009. The statue, normally on display at the Luxembourg Gardens, is on loan to the fair through May 10. (UPI Photo/ David Silpa)
