NEW ANIMALS AT ZOO
A female takin named Jiao (pronounced gee-ow), (L) born on March 3, plays with her mother at the St. Louis Zoo in St. Louis on April 20, 2006. The takin is a little-known relative of the musk ox. This mountain dweller is native to the dense bamboo forests of northern Asia and shares its remote habitat with the giant panda. There are fewer than 40 takin managed cooperatively in North American zoos. Fewer than 12 zoos work with this species. (UPI Photo/Bill Greenblatt)
