Most famous celebrity comebacks (20 images)

If there's anything the public loves, it's a successful comeback, and the more scandalous the nadir, the most spectacular the ascent. Hollywood lends itself to such stories of drug-laden lows and redemptive highs, and these celebs are no different, falling on and off of the wagon at various times of their lives.

In 2008 actor David Duchovny checked himself into a rehabilitation facility for sex addiction. This wasn't the first time the former "X-Files" star's sex life drew attention though. Before getting married to Tea Leoni in 1997, Duchovny was linked to a long string of women, and it was rumored that he had to attend meetings to control his cravings. Duchovny denied those allegations, and claimed they were disrespectful and hurtful. After his 2008 treatment, there have not been any reports on his alleged addiction. UPI/Jim Ruymen

After being the second member of the Democratic party to ever win a second full term as president, and serving during the longest period of peaceful economic expansion, Bill Clinton almost lost it all after a scandal that involved infamous White House intern, Monica Lewinsky. Clinton was impeached for perjury and obstruction of justice, but was soon acquitted by the U.S. Senate and allowed to finish his term. Somehow, Clinton's marriage managed to survive the media attention and his image among Americans remains solid as he is currently traveling all over the world for his charitable foundation, the William J. Clinton Foundation, which, among other projects, has helped people affected by the earthquake in Haiti. UPI /Monika Graff

Business magnate Martha Stewart fell from grace after she was convicted of lying to investigators about a stock sale and was sentenced to spend five months in West Virginia federal prison. The public though it would be all down hill from there for the famous homemaking planner. But as soon as she was released from prison in 2005, Stewart started a comeback campaign that not only saved her image but made her company profitable once again after only one year. After loosing all her hair, her husband and custody of her children, and lets not forget the terrible MTV Award's performance, Spears had a 360-degree comeback. The star admitted that she had hit rock bottom after completely shaving her hair off and attacking a photographer with an umbrella a day after she left a drug rehabilitation center. The singer claimed that more than drunk or depressed, she felt more like a "child walking around with ADD."

After some failed attempts at vindication, her album Circus (2008) and the singer's cleaned up act brought her fans, her fame and her children back.
