Most famous celebrity comebacks (20 images)

If there's anything the public loves, it's a successful comeback, and the more scandalous the nadir, the most spectacular the ascent. Hollywood lends itself to such stories of drug-laden lows and redemptive highs, and these celebs are no different, falling on and off of the wagon at various times of their lives.

Ozzy Osbourne abused alcohol and drugs for about 40 years. After being fired from Black Sabbath in 1979, Osbourne said he spent three months locked in a hotel room taking drugs all day, everyday. It wasn't until his then-girlfriend, now-wife, Sharon Osbourne took him under her wing and offered to manage him as a solo artist that the Prince of Darkness cleaned up his act.

Osbourne frequently comments on how he does not know how he survived his former lifestyle, and says that had it not been for Sharon's offering to manage him he would've died in that hotel room. UPI /Laura Cavanaugh

Singer Whitney Houston confessed to regularly using marijuana and cocaine with former husband, Bobby Brown, during an interview with Oprah. The singer/actress said her drug use got "heavy" after filming the movie "The Bodyguard" in 1992, and claimed she was addicted to Brown most of all. Houston said she wouldn't do anything without him and that she never got high by herself.

"It was him and me together," Houston told Oprah, "We were partners." Houston eventually attended drug rehabilitation in Atlanta and has been battling with drugs on-and-off ever since. UPI/Jim Ruymen
