With millions of dollars at their disposal, many celebrities take the high road and provide support for causes that help those less fortunate than them, whether the causes be at home or abroad. Here are some of the most charitable celebrities in Hollywood and beyond.



Angelina Jolie became personally close to worldwide humanitarian crisis while filming "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" in Cambodia. Soon after, the actress contacted the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and began conducting civil trips with the UNHCR staff. Jolie covered all the costs related to the missions she attended. In 2005 she was named UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador and she's since continued attending field missions around the world and has met and helped refugees in more than 30 countries.

The actress has also funded numerous charities such as the Madox Jolie-Pitt Foundation, dedicated to community development and environmental conservation in Cambodia; The Maddox Chivan Children's Center, a daycare facility for children with HIV in Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh; The Jolie-Pitt Foundation to aid humanitarian causes worldwide and Kids in Need of Defense, which provides legal counsel to unaccompanied immigrant children in the U.S. UPI/Christine Chew

In 2004 Scarlett Johansson was named Ambassador of Oxfam, a foundation that looks to find solutions to poverty, suffering and injustice as well as providing disaster relief. In 2007 Johansson skipped the Oscars in order to tour India and Sri Lanka with the Oxfam-foundation, where she became involved with healthcare and domestic violence projects. Bono is considered one of the most philanthropic performers of this generation, he said he was initially inspired to be charitable when he saw one of the Secret Policeman's Ball benefit shows. In 2001, Bono arranged for U2 to videotape a special live performance for that year's Amnesty benefit. the band was also involved with the Live 8 project in 2005. In addition, Bono has been involved in campaigning for third-world debt relief and raising awareness of Africa's AIDS pandemic. UPI/Christine Chew

There seems to be no end to Winfrey's donating efforts. The entertainer has donated millions of dollars, with most going to three charities: The Angel Network, The Oprah Winfrey Foundation and The Oprah Winfrey Operating Foundation. All three of the organization serve the similar purpose of funding various projects, such as the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa.

In addition, Oprah has contributed to the Mississippi Animal Rescue League, the Clinton Foundation and to Project Cuddle, which rescues babies from abandonment. UPI/Gary Fabiano/Pool
