80's Remake Fever (11 images)

With today's release of "The Expendables," a macho run through 1980's action films, and "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World," a film coated in 8-bit NES references, the age of the Reagan-era remakes continues. Take a look through 11 such recent or upcoming retreads of synthesizer-accented flicks.



Starring Sylvester Stallone, Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger and a near-army of other action stars, "The Expendables," opening today, takes the 80's-era action flick and sticks it in the modern era. The only thing that seems to have changed amidst the explosions and one-liners are the wrinkles on the cast's faces.

There may be a slick, modern sheen to "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World," and the source material stems from a recent graphic novel series, but there's no mistaking the persistence of 1980's-era video game influence on the film's visual style.

Masi Oka of "Heroes" fame, joined the cast of the show's new iteration yesterday as a coroner on the fourth episode. The series is set to debut with CBS' fall lineup.

A remake of the 1984 film of the same name, this year's version starred Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. It jumped out of its June 11 release date with a $55 million opening weekend, and has since grossed $173 million domestically.
