CINCINNATI, Ark., Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Tornadoes touched down in northwest Arkansas and central Missouri Friday, killing at least five people, rescue workers said.

In Arkansas, several homes and buildings in the village of Cincinnati, including the firehouse, were heavily damaged, Washington County Emergency Management Services officials told KFSM-TV, Fort Smith, Ark.

Power was knocked out to more than 18,000 Ozarks Electric customers, but spokeswoman Penny Storms said it had mostly been restored. About 3,000 people in the Lincoln area were still without power.

KYTV, Springfield, Mo., reported one dead, and six injured and 25 homes destroyed by a tornado that hit Rolla. Twisters also killed one and injured another in Dent County and damaged housing at Fort Leonard Wood. In other damage, a 500-gallon propane tank was blown 50 feet from its pedestal in Stone County, KYTV said.
