Looking down at the vent hood (l) and the Rotating Structure (r) on Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center on April 12, 2013. Thirty two years to the day of the first space shuttle launch from this pad, NASA is looking to close the pad. The space agency is hoping that either the USAF or a commercial organization, like SpaceX, will lease the facility to conduct launch operations. NASA has begun to look toward 2014 where it will conduct the first test launch of an Orion Capsule which will, once operational, bring American crews beyond low earth orbit. .UPI/Joe Marino-Bill Cantrell
