WASHINGTON, May 16 (UPI) -- U.S. President George Bush may have lost financial wealth during his time in office, as his assets have fallen to a possible $6.5 million, official papers say.

George and Laura Bush had a fortune of anywhere from $9 million to $24 million when he came into office and now could be worth up to $20 million, forms at the Office of Government Ethics said.

U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney and his spouse Lynn have come out ahead of the Bush family, recording a worth of $21 million to $99 million, documents indicate.

Bush's most valued possession is his 1,600-acre Crawford, Texas, ranch, which has a value of $1 million to $5 million, The Washington Post (NYSE:WPO) reported Friday.

Yearly financial disclosure documents given to the ethics office only report amounts in wide-ranging classifications, eliminating the possibility of pinpointing figures.
