ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, May 13 (UPI) -- Pakistan's 6-week-old ruling coalition was in turmoil Tuesday as nine ministers of one of the parties quit over the failure to restore dismissed judges.

Those leaving represent the Pakistan Muslim League led by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who made the judges' reinstatement a priority when his party joined the senior coalition partner, the Pakistan People's Party led by Asif Ali Zardari, husband of slain Benazir Bhutto.

The resignations were submitted to coalition Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan reported. The issue relates to the judges dismissed last November by Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf during his brief emergency rule.

The APP report quoted an official as saying Gilani hadn't accepted the resignations, saying decision would be taken after Zardari Returns Home from London.

The PML and PPP couldn't agree on a timetable as well as a procedure for reinstating the judges.

On Monday, Sharif said his party wasn't leaving the government but that it would support the government hereon on an issue by issue basis.
