TORONTO, May 12 (UPI) -- A woman was recovering in a Toronto hospital Monday, a day after slipping in front of an oncoming subway train and only being grazed.

Theresa Kelly, 46, suffered a gash on her head, several broken ribs and a hip injury, her husband, Randy Isenberg, who was with her, told the Toronto Star.

Isenberg, 48, said he thought for sure his wife was dead because all he saw was blood and that she was covered with black grime. He said he began crying and she then rolled over and said, "I'm OK."

Isenberg said he asked her what happened, and she said only that she had slipped, the Star said.

Toronto Transit Commission spokesman Brad Ross said Kelly had managed to roll into an alcove beneath the platform just as the train sped into the station and was just grazed by the undercarriage.

"She's very lucky," he told the newspaper.
