Lawyer shot five times by London police

LONDON, May 10 (UPI) -- An attorney who was shot and killed by police this week in a west London standoff was shot at least five times, officials said.
The Telegraph reported Saturday that Mark Saunders, 32, was hit in the brain, heart and liver after nine officers opened fire during the Tuesday standoff in Chelsea.
Attempts by police negotiators failed to persuade Saunders to surrender after he fired shots into neighboring properties from the window of the $4 million flat he shared with his wife Elizabeth Clarke, 40.
At the opening of an inquest into Saunders' death at Westminster Coroner's Court, coroner Lynda Morris confirmed that none of his bullet wounds had been self-inflicted.
"The multiple gunshot wounds present are associated with severe internal damage to the brain, the heart, the liver and the main vein of the lower body," she said, reading from an autopsy report.
Saunders' parents, Rodney and Rosemary Saunders, released a statement saying, "Everyone who knew and loved Mark appreciated his warmth, generosity and sheer energy for life."
