TEHRAN, May 10 (UPI) -- The Iranian government Friday blamed the United States and Israel for the new outbreak of violence in Lebanon.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said the United States and Israel had interfered in Lebanon's internal affairs, the Fars News Agency reported.

"Adventurous efforts and interventions by the U.S. and the Zionist regime are the main cause of the continuous chaotic situation in Lebanon," Hosseini said.

He said Israel failed to achieve what it wanted in the "33-Day War," the 2007 invasion of southern Lebanon aimed at Hezbollah, the Lebanese Islamist group.

The United States has accused Iran of training Hezbollah members.
