Massive Toronto meth lab probe widens

TORONTO, May 1 (UPI) -- The Toronto police investigation into the city's largest-ever discovery of a methamphetamines lab uncovered an adjacent ecstasy lab, officials said.
The Tuesday afternoon raid on an industrial complex in Mississauga, west of the city, netted two complete "cooking kitchens" along with 80 drums of highly volatile chemicals, police said.
Fears of fire or explosion led police to seal the complex, and local and federal chemists were still working Thursday at neutralizing the chemicals, which include alcohol and ether, the Toronto Sun reported.
"It will take us a couple of days to determine how large this is," Staff Inspector Don Campbell said at a news conference Wednesday.
He said there was evidence on the unit's walls "negative reactions" had occurred in the past, the Toronto Star reported.
The reports said while ecstasy is popular in Toronto, methamphetamines are not, and police are looking into whether the operation was exporting drugs.
Four men were arrested Tuesday, and more arrests are expected, police said.
