TULSA, Okla., May 1 (UPI) -- U.S. federal officials are probing the case of an Oklahoma driver's license examiner who said he got in trouble for speaking Spanish to Hispanics.

Henry Stanco said he launched a complaint to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission after his boss, Elmer Traylor, allegedly told him he could only speak English while working, the Tulsa (Okla.) World reported Thursday.

Stanco reportedly was warned after he spoke Spanish to Hispanic people who were in the process of applying for driving tests.

"You are to speak English only to all applicants, this is a direct order not a request. Your follow through will be expected; if not you will be in violation of policy," Taylor's March 26, memo to Stanco said. The Tulsa World said it obtained a copy of the document.

Stanco received a letter dated April 21 from the government agency saying his situation was being handled by an investigator, the report said.
