NEW YORK, April 18 (UPI) -- A teller at Sovereign Bank in New York has been charged with conspiring with a rookie police officer who held up the branch.

Christina Dasrath, 20, a resident of The Bronx, was arrested after Christian Torres told investigators about her, the New York Post reported. Torres was arrested in Pennsylvania last week.

Dasrath appeared in federal court Thursday. A judge set bail at $250,000 but released her immediately, giving her a week to post bond.

Torres is charged with robbing the branch where Dasrath worked in Manhattan twice last year.

In both cases he handed her a note. He left with $16,305 the first time and $102,500 the second, allegedly sharing the loot with Dasrath.

Both Dasrath and Torres appeared ready to blame each other. Her lawyer, Hugh Mundy, said he believes Dasrath was "afraid to go to the police because he was the police."

Torres' lawyer, Paul Nissan, said his client was still waiting to go to the police academy at the time of the first robbery. He said that Dasrath "set the whole thing up."

Torres is in jail in Pennsylvania. He allegedly robbed another Sovereign Branch there.
