LANSING, Mich., April 15 (UPI) -- Presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain would be competitive against either Democrat in a mock Michigan presidential election, a poll found.

The survey of likely voters by Lansing's EPIC-MRA, an independent research firm, indicated Sen. Obama, D-Ill., leading McCain 43 percent to 41 percent, the Detroit News reported Tuesday. Against Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., the Arizona senator has a 46 percent to 37 percent edge.

EPIC-MRA's Bernie Porn said the survey shows either Democrat would have to work to put Michigan in the win column for the fifth straight election.

"They are in danger of losing Michigan," Porn said, "but I don't think it's something that can't be recovered."

When asked whether they planned to vote for a Democrat or Republican, without naming the candidates, 43 percent of respondents said they would vote Democratic, while 31 percent said they'd support the GOP candidate.

The number of respondents surveyed and the dates and methodology of the poll was not given.
