Bill Clinton linked to Chinese censorship

NEW YORK, April 13 (UPI) -- Former U.S. President Bill Clinton has been linked to a Chinese Internet group that aided online censorship by the Chinese government, experts say.

Center for Responsive Politics Executive Director Sheila Krumholz said the reported link between Clinton and Alibaba Inc. was evidence Clinton should be open with his financial records, as should his wife, presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and the William J. Clinton Foundation, the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday.

"This is a perfect example of why it's critical for both Clintons to provide prompt and complete disclosure of all their sources of income, not just personal sources but also his foundation," the advocacy group official said.

The reported link was the most recent fundraising tie between the former president and international groups, a rising concern among those supporting Hillary Clinton's bid for the White House.

"A former president of the United States received a donation from a Chinese firm that is involved in censorship, and now his wife is running for president. This is a shame of the U.S.," Chinese activist Harry Wu said.

The Times said Hillary Clinton has been a vocal opponent of China's actions in Tibet and has called on President George Bush to skip the Beijing Games' opening ceremonies.
