Family not told for year of woman's death

TRENTON, N.J., March 28 (UPI) -- A New Jersey family was not notified for more than a year that their missing daughter's body had been found in an abandoned house in Trenton.

Amber Ramsey, a 21-year-old College of New Jersey student, is believed to have died of a heroin overdose. Her mother, Linda, who lives in neighboring Ewing, told The Times of Trenton that she was only told last week that the body was discovered on Aug. 1, 2006.

"I was floored, absolutely floored," Linda Ramsey said. "I asked them why it took so long to tell me. They said they just wanted to be sure. All those nights I waited, not knowing what had happened to her and she was one town over. I am so angry."

Amber Ramsey had been missing for several months when the body was found. The medical examiner said that it was covered with a coat that had several pieces of identification, including her driver's license, school ID card and a discharge card from the Carrier Clinic, a drug rehabilitation center.

The death certificate, filled out on Aug. 2, 2006, gave the dead woman's name as Amber Ramsey.

Trenton police said they are investigating the case.
