Sniper closes part of I-64 in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va., March 27 (UPI) -- State and local police increased security on I-64 in western Albemarle County, Va., Thursday after sniper fire struck four vehicles, wounding two people.

Police were looking for two suspects seen at the time when shots were fired at vehicles traveling on the interstate from the overpass at Route 690 and the Ivy exit on the interstate at exit 114, The Richmond (Va.) Times-Dispatch said.

Shots also were fired at the Virginia Department of Transportation facility in Yancey Mills, the report said.

One man was treated and released at a hospital and a woman in another vehicle suffered minor injuries.

Police closed 20 miles of the highway from milepost 96 in Augusta County near Waynesboro to U.S. 29 in Albemarle County from midnight to about 7 a.m. Thursday.
