NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., March 27 (UPI) -- A small earthquake that jiggled the Southern California coast Wednesday night was measured at a magnitude 3.1 by the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake occurred at a relatively shallow depth of 4.7 miles and was centered near the boundary of Newport Beach and Costa Mesa.

The Orange County Register said the quake didn't cause any damage, but was felt by a lot of people.

Seismologists at the USGS concluded that the quake occurred along a fault zone that produced a magnitude-2 quake off Newport Beach earlier in the day.
