Russia dismantles 6 missiles

MOSCOW, March 27 (UPI) -- Russian officials said six outdated Topol mobile missile systems have been dismantled under a strategic arms reduction treaty.

It took nearly a week, ending on Wednesday, to dismantle the Strategic Missile Forces said the systems, the Russian information agency Novosti reported.

The Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, also known as START-I, was signed by the United States and the Soviet Union on July 31, 1991, five months before the USSR collapsed.

It still is in effect in the United States, Russia and three ex-Soviet states.
