Atlanta minister files Congress bid

ATLANTA, March 26 (UPI) -- An Atlanta minister has filed papers with the Federal Elections Commission formalizing his bid to run for the seat currently held by U.S. Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga.

Rev. Markel Hutchins, who rose to prominence after he advocated the case of an elderly woman who was killed during a botched Atlanta police drug raid, announced the filing Wednesday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Hutchins is the first electoral challenge Lewis, an 11-term congressman, has faced in nearly a decade.
