India teacher suspended in child assault

PEELAMEDU, India, March 25 (UPI) -- Police in India say a teacher was suspended this week for cracking an 8-year-old student in the head with a wooden clipboard.

No criminal charges were filed against the teacher in Tamil Nadu state despite the fact the boy needed five stitches to close the wound.

Press Trust of India said Tuesday that the incident occurred during a writing exam when the student took a brief break. The teacher, identified as Amudha, allegedly grabbed the board from another student and struck the child.

Amudha allegedly made the boy finish the test and then told him not to tell his parents what had happened, the report said.

The youngster told his family he had fallen in the bathroom, but told them the real story two days later.
