Bomb charges filed in D.C. shotgun case

WASHINGTON, March 24 (UPI) -- U.S. prosecutors said they filed 15 charges, including attempting to manufacture a bomb, against a man arrested near the Capitol with a loaded gun.

Michael Gorbey, 38, pleaded not guilty to the charges in a court appearance Monday, The Hill reported. He previously was charged with being a felon possessing a firearm, but the bomb-related charges were new.

Gorbey was arrested Jan. 18 for carrying a loaded shotgun while walking toward the Supreme Court. Police said when examining his truck they found components that could be used to build a bomb.

Court documents list the 15 charges as the manufacture, transfer, use, possession or transportation of explosives for unlawful purposes, and attempted manufacture or possession of a weapon of mass destruction, among other things, The Hill said.

Gorbey's motion for a change of venue because of media coverage was denied. However, his motion to suppress evidence was not decided.
