EDINA, Minn., March 22 (UPI) -- A 6-year-old Edina, Minn. girl has died after a pool drain removed a large portion of her small intestine nine months ago, a report said.

Abigail Taylor died Thursday evening at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, her family's lawyer, Bob Bennett, said.

Taylor was in the Minneapolis Golf Club's children's pool June 29, 2007, when her posterior became stuck in a pool drain, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported Friday. The drain's suction reportedly pulled out a large portion of her small intestine and left her with other internal injuries.

She went to school in the fall for several days, despite undergoing several operations to correct the effects of the incident -- including several major organ transplants -- the report said.

The incident reportedly resulted in a lawsuit against the Sta-Rite drain-producer and the golf club, as well as tougher pool regulations adopted by Congress, the newspaper said.
