TALLAHASSEE, Fla., March 21 (UPI) -- No injuries were reported and at least six people were arrested Friday afternoon following an outbreak of gunfire at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee.

The shooting occurred just before 2 p.m. EDT at The Set, a popular hangout for FAMU students, the Tallahassee Democrat reported.

It was not clear whether the suspects were students, but FAMU Police Chief Calvin Ross told the newspaper he believed most were not. Ross said one car was struck at least twice by bullets.

"We're still trying to determine what exactly prompted this," Ross said. "We're still interviewing witnesses and have not talked to the suspects as of yet to determine what took place."

Several students told the newspaper they avoided the scene of the shooting after getting a text message from the university that an emergency incident had occurred. However, one student -- Megan Grimball, 21 -- said many students did not get the text message because they had not signed up to receive it.

"Most people aren't registered on campus," she said, "so most people won't know."
