TORONTO, March 21 (UPI) -- A Toronto airport worker has been arrested on charges of stealing greeting cards containing cash from mail bags, police reported.

Peel Regional Police said a veteran employee of Air Canada (OTCBB:AIDIF) who was in charge of shuttling mail from a central cargo area to aircraft was arrested after scores of cards were allegedly found in his possession, the Toronto Sun reported.

"It appears the suspect was targeting greeting cards because many people send money in cards," said Sgt. Malcolm Bow. "Many grandparents send cards with money to their grandchildren."

Bow said officers recovered mail containing at least $2,000 in Canadian and U.S. dollars, euros, yen, shillings and Mexican pesos.

Carmine Trocchia, 49, faces several federal charges, Bow said.
