TRENTON, N.J., March 20 (UPI) --
A man who admitted abandoning his toddler son in a hospital parking lot in Delaware was charged Thursday with killing the boy's missing mother.
Amy Giordano of Hightstown, N.J., was last seen June 7, 2007, shopping with her son and her married boyfriend, Rosario DiGirolamo. The boy turned up two days later, and investigators suspected almost from the beginning that Giordano had been killed.
DiGirolamo was arrested Thursday afternoon in New York, where he has been staying with his parents in Brooklyn, The Wilmington News Journal reported. He was being held in New York pending extradition proceedings, while a judge in New Jersey set bail at $1 million.
Mercer County Prosecutor Joseph Bocchini Jr. said the investigation "has taken several turns." He said the arrest was the result of cooperation among police in all three states and the FBI.
Giordano's body has never been found, but police found traces of blood in her apartment.
DiGirolamo received a probationary sentence after he pleaded guilty in Delaware to abandoning his son. His wife divorced him after his affair with Giordano became public.© 2008 United Press International. All Rights Reserved.
