DALLAS, March 12 (UPI) -- A women threw her two children off a Dallas overpass into morning rush-hour traffic Wednesday and then jumped herself, local media reported.

The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. on Interstate 30 and all three survived the incident, though the woman was reported in critical condition at a hospital, the Dallas Morning News said.

The incident caused traffic to back up for about 4 miles, the Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram reported.

A Dallas police spokesman told WFAA-TV, Dallas, it was "a miracle" the children were not hit by oncoming traffic.

The distance from the overpass to the roadway is 14 feet, the station said.
